In the larder this week: Carrots are back looking fresh and better than ever. On the veg table we have a new addition of some butternut squashes. We also have some onions, plenty garlic and the last of a batch of cabbages. And a rather large Squash that will hopefully find a home in someone’s soup or pie. The bananas are looking good and ready to eat, still a lot of apple and some fresh plums. Finally, someone take some swedes away they are getting past best. In the larder this week we have a few products we have not had before. For those that love a roast potato we have a good number of them in the freezer. Along with that we have some veggie burgers that look very tasty and smashing salmon fillets. Our Fruit and vegetable selection will keep our veg lovers happy, the broccoli looks amazing. There is a few kiwis, grapes, plenty apples, cabbages, carrots, potatoes, brussel sprouts, swedes and a big tray of bananas. It’s a veggie week this week, it looking like a bit like Eastenders Fruit and Veg stall. We have some great looking onions, carrots, brussels, cabbages, broccoli, mushrooms, cucumber, garlic, spring onions, tomatoes, swedes, potatoes and a truck load of Bananas. I see a few pans of soup and banana loafs or muffins arising from this bunch. In the fridge we still have a range of yogurts, pastry and some coconut water. The fridge has quite a choice this week. We have six fresh roast chickens and two packets of mince beef. These will fly out the door. Along with that we have some great Greek yogurts and a couple of flavours of muller lights. Theres more some short crust pastry and more…come on down. 2 items from the fridge. Wow we have so many grapes and blueberries, so so so many. Blueberries are a free item this week, they don’t count in your ten item limit. Grapes please take a good portion plenty to go around. Come and help stop these going to waste. Along with that we have some great looking sprouts, turnips, lettuces, vine tomatoes, basil, cress, bananas that need to go very soon as on the turn. In the “Larder” this week 27th October 2025
We are spoilt for choice in the vegetable department this week. Some lovely leafy green cabbages, turnips, parsnips, brussel sprouts, tomatoes, runner beans, peas, carrots, red cabbages, potatoes and some mushrooms in the fridge. Along with that we have some lovely lemons, bananas, golden delicious apples, local apples and some cooking apples that might make a lovely apple crumble to go with the custard in the fridge. Cafe, Larder and Food Bank Logos
Duns Fair Share (DFS) is a community based registered Scottish charity run by volunteers. DFS runs a community Cafe and Larder along with the Food Bank. In an effort to give each their own identity we have created a separate logo for each while still maintaining the link under the management of Duns Fair Share. Cafe and Larder The Cafe and Larder are currently open for two hours on Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 10am and 12pm. In the “Larder” this week Monday 20th October 2025
Instead of a packed fridge we have a packed freezer. We have quite a few packets of coated boneless chicken fillets. How about making some delicious wraps paired with one of the sauces from the shelf and some of the veg from the table. Also in the freezer are some lovely salmon fillets donated by Farne of Scotland, lovely paired with some potatoes from the table, with some carrots, cabbage or little tomatoes. Finally in the freezer this week we have some lovely looking margarita pizzas, a meal in itself of great paired with some chips made from the potatoes from the table and maybe some mayonnaise from the shelf.…
Last Minute Evening Openings (14th October 2025)
It has been a busy time in the Larder. We have had our regular busy openings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are trialling last minute openings from food collections, this week this was gratefully received from the Duns Coop. These trial openings have been on two nights this week at 9:30pm with food that had mostly the same day used by dates. From these two trials alone we have managed to divert so much food from going to landfill. Out of 13 large bags from the coop only 4 ended up in the bin. 9 bags went to someone’s home to eat. Once again we have the most amazing selection of fruit and vegetables from Abundant Borders and the Hugo Burge Foundation - including Brussels sprouts! - too early? The fridge and freezer are both full to the brim. The cheese and onion bakes are an extra item in the fridge so please help yourselves.
